The autumn months are extremely popular for weddings! It’s a much cooler season compared to summer, but it’s not a freezing time like winter.
If you’re planning for your fall wedding next year, or you just love exploring fashion and dress ideas for styling, then we have some suggestions for you! Here are some fall wedding dress tips for the bride and bridesmaids if and when you’re planning the big day.
Dress colour suggestions
Of course the colours will matter in terms of the wedding dress and bridesmaid dresses! These suggestions have proven to show some true seasonal flair:
- Purples: Deep plum, wine, sangria, and royal are all excellent choices.
- Warm metallics: gold is especially popular this time of the year.
- Reds: Sienna, scarlet, crimson, and burgundy. Think dark like leaves.
- Greens: Juniper and emerald.
- Blues: Marine and navy.
- Greys: Graphite and monochromatic.
- Brown: either light or dark works great.
- Neutrals: because even beige can be beautiful when paired with colourful bouquets and accessories.
Layering
We talked a little about layering clothing in our previous blog post, and you can totally do the same thing for your wedding! Sweaters, shrugs, and coats can give you and your bridal party a creative, unique look that both suits your wedding and the season. In addition, this tip can nail your look for the entire season (check out our blog post on the subject if you’d like!).
Autumnal accessories & bouquets
Because what’s a wedding without flowers and a little extra flair to your style? Feel free to use any of these suggestions to really nail the autumnal theme of your wedding day without going too over the top about it.
- Foliage for jewelry
- Pair off flowers in hair with autumn leaves
- Scarves
- Closed toe shoes
- Hats
In terms of the bouquets your ladies will be carrying, these are the most popular options for autumn weddings:
- Bi-coloured roses (red and pink, orange and yellow, etc.)
- Calla lilies
- Orange gerbera daisies
- Purple and/or orange dahlias
- Asiatic lilies
- Chrysanthemums
- Asters
- Marigolds
- Gladioli
- Zinnias
- Sunflowers
Pair off the flowers of your bouquets with these seasonal greens and decor:
- Oak leaves
- Acorns
- Maple leaves
- Queen Anne’s lace
- Waxflowers
- Hypericum
In case it rains…
Fall can also mean rain on your wedding day; the weather in the Lower Mainland and Vancouver BC can get pretty soggy! That doesn’t mean you have to cancel your big day outright unless it’s a storm. Instead, why not opt for rainy day accessories to go with your bridesmaid dresses? Perhaps you could use one of these ideas:
- Rubber boots
- Galoshes
- Translucent and colourful raincoats
- Umbrellas
Sleeves
Sleeves are always in when it’s fall! Some of the most beautiful designs we’ve seen on wedding dresses and bridesmaid dresses both take advantage of the use of sleeves to really add some glitz, glamour, and elegance. Love U’s dresses are convertible enough that you can go with sleeves too! Simply pull the fabric down over your shoulders after applying the double strapped neckline (see our videos if you’re having trouble!).
Halloween costumes
Who says you have to stick with the classics in autumn? Some Halloween weddings have really shone out to be creative and cool for everyone involved! If you love to dress up, or you and your future spouse have a favourite theme in common for this holiday, you can align the decorations and costumes for you and your bridal and groom party. Encourage your guests to come in costume too!
