What Pantone’s 2020 Colour of the Year Means for Convertible Dresses

A new year, a new colour for clothing options! Part of the job at Love U Designs includes paying attention to the latest colour trends and offering that kind of reflection in the convertible dresses we offer to our customers. Of course, Pantone is one of the leading colour companies in the world, so this article is focused on them. Their 2020 Colour of the Year was officially released on December 5, 2019, and we couldn’t be more excited to examine it! Let’s take a look at Pantone’s Color of the Year for 2020 and see what it means for future convertible dresses and fashion altogether.

A Quick Recap on Last Year’s Colour

2019 was the colour of Living Coral. It was a year of expressing our yearning to be authentic despite the advancements of technology; to break away momentarily from social media and truly embrace what’s living right in front of us. Some would argue this is a naive way to look at life, but for many others it’s a refreshing reminder to live in the present. The colour Living Coral was chosen to reflect that vivacity and desire, from clothing to graphic design. If you’re still scratching your head about this, we wrote a full-length blog post about it if you need a refresher!

What Pantone’s 2020 Colour of the Year Means

2020 is the year of Classic Blue. This is the colour that, according to Pantone, is meant for “Instilling calm, confidence, and connection”. At the same time, Classic Blue “highlights our desire for a dependable and stable foundation on which to build as we cross the threshold into a new era.” So, what does this mean for fashion and colour choices? Simple: blue is a universal colour. Its shades may vary, but as technology and our own society advances, we find ourselves trying to find our footing and stability in an ever-changing world. That’s why the colour of choice this year is one that is simple, elegant, and most of all reliable. Blue can be a colour, and it can be a neutral—it’s both versatile and stable, evoking beautiful and classic imagery such as the evening sky. We are more confident as we head towards a brand new year and an entirely new decade. Classic Blue is full of both promise and reflection, making it an excellent choice for this year’s Colour of the Year.
