Whether you’re the bride trying to figure out the look of your wedding day or a bridesmaid searching for that perfect dress, there are a few things you need to keep in mind. The front of your dress—that’s one thing. The colours—that’s also important (we have some great tips to share with you about colours for bridesmaids, if you want!).
What about the length of the dress though? Is that something you never considered until now? Well, if not, you’re in luck, because we have some tips for you! Here is what you need to know about the lengths of your bridesmaids’ dresses.
Why length matters
How long the dress needs to be for a bridesmaid matters for several reasons:- You don’t want anyone to trip on the bottom of their dress when you walk down the aisle—that’d be a disaster!
- Temperature is a factor. The length will depend on how cold or warm you and your girls will be, or how comfortable you all are.
- The style needs to be consistent. A short dress in the bridal party doesn’t gel with longer dresses if that’s what everyone else is wearing.
Rules of thumb
Basically, the lengths of bridesmaid dresses should follow these guidelines:- For a wedding that takes place in the morning, the bridesmaid dresses should be mini or short.
- For a wedding in the afternoon, the dress should be medium or knee length.
- For a wedding in the evening, the dress should be long (also known as floor length).
