How to Choose the Perfect Necklace for Your Wrap Dress

Who doesn’t love adding a little bling and personality to their dress? Today we’re going to focus on a very specific but always popular accessory for dresses: the necklace. The necklace needs no introduction. It is a universal accessory, worn in so many ways in every culture on Earth. The materials that make a necklace also vary from form to form and from type to type. Short long, beaded, wooden, or metallic—there are so many kinds to choose from! If you’re the proud owner of a brand new convertible wrap dress you’ve bought, naturally you will want to add some bling and personality to go with your new dress. What better accessory to pair it with than the necklace? Here are some tips from us on how to choose the perfect necklace for your new wrap dress.

What We’re Not Saying

The point of this article is not that you should go out and buy a new necklace outright—unless you absolutely want to, this step is really not necessary! What it means is we want you to be very happy with both the dress and the necklace of choice.

It’s all about personality

Naturally we want you to go with the necklace that means the most to you in terms of your personality and true self. If you want to wear a necklace that has a lot of meaning to you, go ahead and wear it! If you find a new one that looks like it really would go well with the dress, then maybe it was meant to be. There are all kinds out there, from simple yet also functional necklaces to the kind you can only wear with one dress (i.e. possibly your wedding day).Whichever kind of necklace you choose, you should make sure it matches your personality.

Long or short?

The length of the necklace really depends more on you than the dress! Be aware of the pros and cons of each: Long necklace pros: allows you to wear other, complimentary necklaces that go with your long one. Long necklace cons: could get tangled up or caught on something by accident! Short necklace pros: accentuates your neck and collar bone, and you can see the design clearly. Short necklace cons: may draw attention to your breasts more so than the dress itself (not sure that’s the effect you’re going for or not!)

Materials

Classic materials used for necklaces are gold, bronze, nickel, silver as metals. Gemstones, whether real or costume, can add extra glitter to your metallic necklace. Other cool materials can include wood, rope, leather, and other naturally woven fibres. There are even cultures that use bone and nuts for carvings! You can mix and match the colours of each of these materials with your dress.

Should the necklace match other accessories?

That’s entirely up to you! Certainly if you’ve found a necklace that comes with a matching pair of earrings, you can totally use both. If you’re pairing up an older necklace (maybe you got it as a gift, or it has sentimental value from your childhood) with accessories, it’s best you match the necklace’s materials and colours with your accessories as best you possibly can. Following these guidelines might also help:
  • The lighter the dress, the bolder your accessories can look; keep this in mind when pairing necklaces with dresses.
  • Certain materials of the same colour may clash with differing ones. Pairing a gold necklace with silver earrings may clash in terms of style; likewise, wood jewelry may look off when paired with metallic kinds. Try to match the materials as closely as you can.
Now that you’re feeling more like styling with necklaces, pair yours up with your beautiful new wrap dress! Have fun! Creative Commons Attribution: Permission is granted to repost this article in its entirety with credit to Love U Designs and a clickable link back to this page.
