September is the month of going back to school and, after Labour Day, work. This time of the year means a lot of different things to different people, but one thing it definitely does is remind people at work that now more than ever is the time to really focus now that summer is nearly over. This includes dressing up for the job, whether you’re on the hunt for a new one or you have one already.
If you’ve got yourself a beautiful convertible wrap dress, why not take it to work one day? Here are some styling tips and ideas for your wrap dress at work. These tips can also apply to more fun work-related occasions, such as lunch meetings or conventions.
A Few Notes
Not all of these suggestions may work out for you and your beautiful wrap dress—because not all jobs require you to dress up the same! There may be a dress code policy in place or a safety policy for clothing while at work (again, it depends on the job—construction, police, dentistry, or nursing you absolutely for sure should stick with the correct gear and uniforms). If you’re a waitress, cook, baker, or a painter, then dress code matters too (you don’t want food or paint to spill on such nice clothes either!).
Styling Tips for Wrap Dresses at Work
Are you allowed to wear skirts at your job, or do you need to wear pants? Either way,
our instructional videos can offer you some handy advice on how to style and re-style your wrap dress so that it’s workplace appropriate. You can change your dress into a shirt, that you can then tuck into your pants. You can also extend the sleeves in case you get cold or need to layer for autumn (we have some tips on styling for the season that you can check out here if you’d like!).
For knee-length or mini dresses, depending on the season you can mix and match the hosiery and pants alternatives to really nail the work look. Try wearing leggings or black stockings with your wrap dress when it’s cool or cold outside, and pair it with your best raincoat. For warmer months, you can try matching your favourite pair of capris underneath your wrap dress and follow the same styling tips as you would with longer pants to add some summer style without giving up the need to stay cool and look professional!
Accessories
Again, depending on where you work, you may need to pin your hair back or up to keep it out of your face while working. Why not add a hair pin, a coloured elastic band, or even a fake flower hair pin that suits your new wrap dress? You can add all sorts of other hair accessories to wear inside and then wear a hat while traveling.
Eye glasses, whether you need them or not, can also add a sharp and keen edge to your professional style at the office. It may be wise to hang your glasses on a chain so it can be both a necklace and important eyewear!
In terms of jewelry, simple yet elegant choices are usually a pretty good match with the workplace. A wrist watch can add its own special kind of bling while also making you look like you’re ready to go to work. Longer necklaces and short/studded earrings when paired together can also add some flair to your attire. A brooch can also keep your chest non-exposed if you’re worried about that but still want to wear your wrap dress.
Now that you have all of these ideas, it’s time to put them to use!
